High Cotton

As the economy continues to rebound, prices for the industry’s top-selling category — apparel are also on the rise thanks to increasing cotton prices and overseas labor costs. The USDA estimates that global cotton consumption will exceed cotton stocks for the sixth consecutive year. To control your costs consider close-outs and discontinued items.

High Everything Else

Now factor in limited price increases in 2009 and virtually no price increases in 2010, 2011 is looking as the year prices will climb. With the recession, lots of container ships were moth-balled or put into dry dock so getting overseas produced products to market is taking longer. Way-back-when it was 6 - 12 days to get items produced in Asia across the ocean and cleared through customs. As the economy continues to improve (you didn't get that memo?) and demands for products continues to increase, the lack of container ships to carry the goods is keeping many overseas items on the docks in Asia for 2, 3 & 4 weeks before they even get loaded to make the trip. First it was very "PC" to buy American made goods, now they're starting to look financially competitive.
